Esther Maureen Biays of Avondale, Colorado and formerly of Russell passed away peacefully at her home on July 7th, 2009. She was born on November 14, 1908, the daughter of Albert Clayton and Edna Grace (Himes) Hollinger. She graduated from Russell High School. She was united in marriage to William Max Biays on July 13, 1928, this union was blessed with four children; Virginia Ruth Hall, Paul Max Biays, Dorothy Lynn (Hill) Gibson, and Ellen Maureen Wright.
While living in Russell, she worked at Holzer’s Flower Shop and at the Jane Harris Dress Shop. She then began her career as a dormitory director in York, Nebraska; Hastings, Nebraska; LaVerne, California; and Hays, Kansas. After retirement she resided in Russell until 1999, when she moved to Colorado to live with her youngest daughter.
Surviving family include three daughters, nine grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Max, and son Paul.
A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 15, 2009 at Otterbein United Methodist Church with Pastor Earl Haggard officiating. No visitation will be held. Cremation has preceded the services. A memorial has been established with the Otterbein United Methodist Church or the Hays Christian Church.
