Marvin L. Radke, 86 of Wichita, Kansas and formerly of Milberger, died Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.  Marvin was born March 28, 1923 in Russell.  He grew up on a farm south of Russell and attended school in Milberger.

 

Marvin served his country in the United States Army during WWII.  He was with the 39th field artillery in Gen. Patton’s 3rd Army.  After the war, he returned home and helped his parents on the farm.

 

In 1957 he went to work for International Telephone & Telegraph Co. installing office equipment.  Marvin then moved his family to Milan, Tennessee where he worked over 15 years in the I.T.T. factory.  In 1979, Marvin and his family moved to Wichita where he worked for Beech Aircraft Co. as a technician.  He worked there over 16 years before retiring.

 

Marvin was united in marriage to Belle M. McPherson on December 22, 1957 in Yellville, Arkansas.  This union was blessed with a daughter, Connie.

 

Marvin was a member of the Milberger United Emmanuel Lutheran Church.  He was a life member of the Hoisington V.F.W. Post since 1968.  He enjoyed fishing, attending air shows and watching Nascar racing.

 

Surviving family include his wife of 51 years, Belle of the home; daughter Connie Kurian and husband Matthew of Logan, Utah; and sister, Dorlene Steele of Dodge City, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harvey Radke and sister Lorene Kahler.


Celebration of Marvin’s Life will be at 2:00 PM Friday, August 28, 2009 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.  Interment will follow at the Russell City Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the V.F.W. Honor Guard of Hoisington.  Visitation will be from 9 AM Friday morning till service time.  A memorial has been established with the Hoisington V.F.W. Post.  Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
