Darren Allan Achterberg, 26 of Hays, Kansas died Monday, September 7, 2009 near Fairport, Kansas.

Darren was born January 28, 1983 in Hays, the son of Duane A. and Linda K. (Morgan) Achterberg.  He grew up in Hays and graduated from Hays High School in 2002.

Darren worked for the tire & repair department in Walmart before moving to Omaha, Nebraska where he worked for Walmart and Auto Pros.  He returned to Hays and worked for R.P. Nixon Operations, Inc. as an oilfield pumper.

Darren was united in marriage to Darcy D. Linder on September 28, 2007 in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Darren was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and attended the Kingdom Hall of Hays.  He loved working on motors, especially on trucks.  He also enjoyed drawing and listening to music.

Surviving family include his wife of the home, Darcy; sister, Miranda Eskue and husband Joshua of Hays; parents, Duane and Linda Achterberg of Hays; grandmothers, Melva Achterberg of Lincoln, Kansas and Marilyn Morgan of Bison, Kansas; niece and nephew, Jordyn and Isaac Eskue.  He was preceded in death by his grandfathers.

Celebration of Darren’s Life will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 12, 2009 at the Kingdom Hall in Hays, located at 12^th & Canterbury Dr.  There will be no visitation, cremation has preceded the services.  A memorial has been established with the Hays Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of the family of Darren Achterberg, 1720 Golden Belt Hays, KS  67601.
