Jimmy L. James, 63, of Russell, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, after a gallant fight against cancer.  He was born on November 11, 1945 in Houston, Texas.  He graduated in 1964 from Smiley High School in Houston and joined the U.S. Air Force.  Jim served in Okinawa, Vietnam and Thailand.  He was a jet engine Mechanic.

 

After finishing his duty for his country, Jim returned to Houston, Texas.  He became a journeyman electrician.  On April 20, 1981, he married Connie (Cox) Andrist.  He received his Electrical Engineering degree in 1990.  Some of his career accomplishments are that he worked in the Houston area as a journeyman electrician for many years; was Manager of the Larned Power plant; director of Gas and Electric Utilities for the City of Chanute and worked for a short time for a power plant in Greenville, TX.  His ill health required that he take an early retirement.

 

He is survived by his wife, of the home; daughter Kendall Andrist of Walnut, Kansas; daughter Jennifer of Russell, KS; and granddaughter Kim of the home.  Also, he is survived by his mother, Marjorie Pike and sister Arleta Pike of Houston, TX.

 

A Celebration of James’s Life will be held at 11 AM Monday, September 21, 2009 at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor Terry McGuire Officiating.  Inurnment of his ashes will follow at a later date.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
