Dennis K. Kingsbury, 59 of Russell died Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Wesley Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. Dennis was born August 26, 1950 in Red Cloud, Nebraska the son of Paul Edward and Lois Marie (Jackson) Kingsbury. He grew up in Red Cloud, Evergreen, Colorado and graduated from Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado in 1968.
Dennis was united in marriage to Mary Lennon on August 1, 1969 in Boulder. This union was blessed with two children, Corrie and Casey. Mary and Dennis separated and later Dennis was blessed with another son, Nathan.
Dennis was a concrete finisher, a.k.a. “Slab King”. He has worked his whole life with concrete and has worked all over the country. He was the owner and operator of Western Concrete Construction Co. for over 15 years.
Family was the main stay of Dennis’ life. But he also enjoyed fishing, working in his shop, restoring old vehicles and being in the mountains.
Surviving family include his daughter, Corrie Stroud and husband Lonny of Paonia, Colorado; two sons, Casey Kingsbury and wife Susan of Fruita, Colorado and Nathan Kingsbury of Russell; mother, Lois Kingsbury of Smith Center, Kansas; three brothers, Duane Kingsbury of Dorrance, Kansas, Sidney Kingsbury of Clinton, Missouri and Jeffrey Kingsbury of Smith Center, Kansas; three grandchildren; Dylan Stroud, Kelsey Stroud and Avery Kingsbury. He was preceded in death by his father.
Celebration of Dennis’ Life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 10, 2009 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Services will conclude at the mortuary because cremation has preceded the service. A memorial has been established as the Nathan Education Fund.
