Rosa Irene Elsasser, 95, of Russell died on Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Great Bend Regional Hospital.

She was born on December 3rd, 1913 at Wheatland Township in Barton County, Kansas the daughter of J.P. and Kathrina (Schneider) Ochs.  Rosa lived her early life on the family farm, received her basic education near her home, was baptized and confirmed in the Reformed Schoenfeld Church in Northern Barton County, Kansas.  She was united in marriage to Alvin Elsasser on November 1, 1936 at the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell.  From this union they were blessed with two sons and one daughter Allen, Harlan and Elaine. 

Her life was filled with many varied activities on the family farm south of Milberger.  She occupied her time as a homemaker.  Rosa and Alvin moved to Russell from the farm in 1971 and again was active with varied activities.  Rosa was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren.

Surviving family include her sons Allen Elsasser of San Antonio, Texas and Harlan Elsasser of Heyburn, Idaho; son in-law Gerald Machin of Russell, 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, 2 step great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alvin on June 2, 1995, daughter Elaine Machin on January 27, 1995, 5 brothers, 4 sisters and 1 grandchild.

A celebration of Rosa’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary Chapel in Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating.  Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary with the family present to greet visitors from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M. Tuesday evening.  Memorials may be given to the Russell Regional Hospital and sent in care of the mortuary.  Condolences may be sent via email by going to www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
