Hilda (Ehrlich) Michel, 89 of Russell, died Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Salina Regional Hospital in Salina, Kansas. Hilda was born May 12, 1920 in Russell, the daughter of George F. and Anna Elizabeth (Ehrlich) Ehrlich. She grew up in Russell and attended school there.
Hilda was united in marriage to Leo Michel on April 22, 1949 in Russell. This union was blessed with two daughters; Rosa Lee and Bonnie. Leo preceded her in death on May 12, 1992.
Hilda was a devoted wife and loving mother. She took great pride in her home and family.
She is a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. She also belonged to the Busy Stitchers Sewing Club. She loved sewing, crocheting, quilting, cooking, baking and watching birds. Hilda was a generous person who was always willing to help anyone.
Surviving family include her daughters, Rose Lorenzen and husband John of Galena, Illinois and Bonnie Hansen and husband Steven of Salina, Kansas; and sister, Esther Goetting of Phoenix, Arizona; She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Herman Ehrlich, Marvin Ehrlich and William Ehrlich; and sister, Lydia Herdt.
Celebration of Hilda’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell with Pastor Roger Dennis officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Tuesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM. A memorial has been established with St. John Lutheran Church. Contributions and condolences may be left with Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
