Bette J. Quinley, 90 of Great Bend, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood, Kansas.
Bette was born May 22, 1919 in Long Beach, California, the daughter of Francis and Margaret (McQuillian) Johannes. At a young age, Bette and her family moved to Salina, Kansas. She graduated from Sacred Heart High School and attended two years at Marymount College where she studied business.
Bette was united in marriage to Philip Sullivan Quinley on July 17, 1942 in Long Beach, California. Bette and Philip lived in Salina. This union was blessed with two children; Peggy and Philip. Philip preceded her in death in 1955. After Philip’s death, Bette moved to Great Bend.
Bette worked for CENTEL Electric Company in Great Bend as an Administration Assistant for over 30 years before retiring in 1985.
Bette was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Great Bend. Playing Bridge was an obsession for Bette.
Surviving family include her daughter, Peggy Beck and husband Bud of Russell, Kansas; her son, Philip Quinley and wife Susan of Carmichael, California; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Philip.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church – St. Patrick Center. Interment will follow at the Great Bend City Cemetery. The family will be present to great friends at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell from 5 PM to 7 PM Friday and at the Church from 1:00 PM to service time.
