Margaret Mary Denning, 84, of Russell died on Saturday, November 28, 2009 in the emergency room at the Russell Regional Hospital. 

Margaret was born on April 28, 1925 in Bunker Hill, Kansas the daughter of Carl E. and Mary (Phillips) Dauber.  She met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Cyril (C.J.) Denning on June 19, 1945 in Russell.  Cyril preceded her in death on May 5, 1983.  From this union they were blessed with five children Linda, Jean, Mary Ann, Carl and John.  She worked with C. J. on the family dairy farm and enjoyed many years as an active member of the Russell County Saddle Club.  After she and C. J. sold the dairy farm, Margaret worked at the Russell County Treasurer’s Office in the Russell County Court House, until she retired in 1988.  Margaret was a longtime active member of the St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell.  She was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Republican Party, KOOD TV Advisory Board, Farm Bureau Board and the Russell County Zoning Board.  She enjoyed tending her flower garden, working crossword puzzles and traveling.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Margaret was a true Ambassador for Russell which was reflected in her involvement, her love for the community and pride on where she was raised

Surviving family include daughters Linda Denning of Manhattan, Kansas, Jean Festa and husband Mike of Unionville, Connecticut and Mary Ann Anschutz and husband Jim of Midland, Michigan; sons Carl Denning of Russell and John Denning and wife Carole of Gainesville, Virginia; brother Elmo Dauber of Salina and a sister Virginia Wasinger of Hays, grandchildren Alicia Grazioli, David Denning and Susan Unger; 7 great grandchildren and her beloved cat Alco.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister Phyllis. 

A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009 at the St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell.  Burial will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at the mortuary with family present from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Tuesday evening.  Memorials may be given to the St. Mary’s Kitchen Fund and sent in care of the mortuary.  Condolences may be sent via email by going to www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
