Alvina Lucile Kilian, 95, of Russell, KS died on December 5, 2009, at Russell Regional Hospital.
Alvina was born on August 16, 1914 in Russell, Kansas the daughter of Henry, Jr. and Katherine (Schaat) Krug. She grew up in the Russell area and attended Russell public schools. She was a beauty operator for several years prior to marriage. Alvina met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Johnny Kilian on July 26, 1936 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell. From this union Alvina and Johnny were blessed with 4 children Larry, Judith, Gary and Cynthia. Alvina and Johnny were very fortunate to be able to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary in 1981 and their 50th 1986. Johnny preceded Alvina in death on June 19, 1988 in Russell. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell where she served 9 years on the Altar Guild. Alvina was also a member of the E.L.C.W., B.P.O. Does, American Legion Auxiliary and the Happy 12 Pinochle Card Club. She was a wonderful homemaker who enjoyed cross stitch quilts, embroidery and playing cards.
Alvina is survived by sons Larry Dean Kilian of Eudora, Kansas and Gary Lee Kilian and wife Diane of Russell; daughters Judith Joan Holmes of Russell and Cynthia Sue Gilveli and husband Greg of Arizona City, Arizona; sister Dorothy Bell of Illinois, 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and many step grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alvina would like to express a special message, “Thank You, From Mom to Diane”.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers Edwin and LeRoy Krug; sisters Isabelle Barnes and Mildred Stevens; daughter in-law Donna Kilian and son in-law Wendell Holmes.
A Celebration of Alvina’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday December 10, 2009 at the St. John Lutheran Church of Russell with Pastor Greg Gilveli officiating. Burial will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the mortuary with family present from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Tuesday evening. Memorials may be given to the St. John Lutheran Church or Russell Senior Center and may be sent in care of the mortuary. Condolences may be mailed or sent via email by going to www.pvpmortuary.com.
