Eleanor Marie (Munsch) Basgall, 84 of Russell and formerly of Plainville, died Friday, December 18, 2009 at the Kay Pogue Hospice Center in Salina.

Eleanor was born May 11, 1925 on the family farm near Schoenchen, Kansas, the daughter of Alexander and Pauline (Graf) Munsch.  She grew up in Schoenchen and attended school there.

Eleanor was united in marriage to Maurice J. Basgall on July 23, 1946 in Schoenchen.  This union was blessed with six children; Gladys, Dave, Judy, Mary Louise, Sheila and Cliff.  Maurice preceded her in death on August 24, 1993.

Eleanor was a homemaker and devoted mother not only to her own children, but to all her family.  She was the one who always was having fun.  She loved dancing, doing crafts, making Afghans for her grandchildren, cooking for family weddings and being the family comedian.

Eleanor was a member of the St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell.  She also belonged to Russell Council of Catholic Women, Sunflower Polka Club and was a lifemember of the V.F.W. Auxiliary.

Surviving family include her children; Gladys Leiker of Russell, Dave Basgall and wife Patty of Plainville, Kansas, Judy Chorice and husband Bill of Blue Springs, Missouri, Sheila Gaschler and husband Keith of Ellis, Kansas and Cliff Basgall and wife Beverly of Russell; four sisters, Darlene Bortz of Claflin, Kansas, Thresa Basgall, Estella Brenning and Fritzie Weicken all of LaCrosse, Kansas; 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Mary Louise, 7 brothers and 5 sisters. 

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell. Interment will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Plainville, Kansas.  Visitation will be held from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday, December 21, 2009 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.  A Vigil will be held at 7 PM Monday at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church.  Memorials have been established with the Kay Pogue Hospice Center of Salina or the St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church building fund.  Contributions and condolences may be left with Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
