Mark Herbert Hoyt, 53, of Dorrance, died Friday night January 22, 2010 at his home.  Mark was born on September 16, 1956 in Garden City, Kansas the son of Gerald E. and Helen (Brinkmeyer) Hoyt.  He grew up in the Garden City and Hokem areas and graduated from Hokem High School in 1974.  He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Rena Kreger on June 21, 1975 in Garden City.  From this union they were blessed with 3 children Tony, Stephanie and Jill.  For 20 years he worked as a mechanic at the Cash-n-Carry in Garden City and in 2001 he and the family moved to Dorrance, Kansas.  He went to work for the Russell County Highway Department in 2004 until failing health forced him to retire.  He was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church of Garden City, Kansas.  He has also been a member of the Dorrance City Council since 2002, Sons of the Legion in Dorrance and involved in many community activities in Dorrance.  He enjoyed tinkering and fixing other people’s item and loved hunting, fishing and loved being around animals.

Surviving family include his wife Rena of the home, mother Helen Hoyt Blackman of Garden City, son Tony Hoyt of Elkhart, daughters Stephanie Hoyt and companion Chad Hatfield of Kingman, Arizona and Jill Hoyt and companion Damon Modlin of Bunker Hill; brothers Mike Hoyt of Garden City and Pat Hoyt of Rhome, Texas; sisters ann McDowell of Garden City; 4 grandchildren Samantha, Grace, Varick and Zane.

He was preceded in death by his father. 

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary Chapel with Bob Boatright officiating.  Services will conclude at the mortuary with a private burial later.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Monday, January 25, 2010 at the mortuary.  A Memorial has been established with the Dorrance City Park for Picnic Tables and may be sent in care of the mortuary.  Condolences may be sent via email by going to www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
