Everett Ralph Shaffer, 92, of Bunker Hill, Kansas died on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Wheatland Nursing Center of Russell.   

Everett was born on October 20, 1917 in Bunker Hill, the son of Pearl T. and Kathryn (Wehrli) Shaffer.  He grew up in the Bunker Hill area and graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1936.  He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Charlotte A. Powell on September 4, 1955 at the United Methodist Church in Salina.  From this union they were blessed with a daughter Connie Jean.  Everett worked on the family farm, farming and ranching as well as raising wheat, cattle, hogs and milk cows.  He was proud to serve as Treasurer of the Center Township Board for two terms.  He was baptized in the Bible Baptist Church of Russell and enjoyed playing baseball when he was young.  

Surviving family include his wife Charlotte of the home, daughter Connie J. Blanke and husband Michael of Russell and sister Joyce Frederick of Hobbs, New Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leland Shaffer, sisters Marjorie Rabas and Letha Shaffer.

A Celebration of Everett’s life will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Russell with Pastor Terry McGuire officiating.  Burial will follow at the Bunker Hill Cemetery in Bunker Hill.  Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  Memorials may be given to the Southwind Hospice, First Congregational Church or Trinity United Methodist Church all of Russell.  Memorials may be sent in care of the mortuary and condolences may be sent via email by going to www.pvpmortuary.com.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
