Joan G. Nichol, 86 of Russell died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at her home.

Joan was born January 10, 1924 on the family farm near Pfeiffer, Kansas, the daughter of U.L. and Rose (Dome) Jones.  She grew up on the farm and attended country schools in the area.  After her mother’s accidental death, Joan and her dad moved to Russell. 

Joan was united in marriage to John Wilbur Nichol on December 26, 1982 in Russell.  They made their home in Russell.  John preceded her in death on February 1, 2002. 

Joan worked on her family’s farm until moving to Russell.  Then after her marriage she was a devoted wife and homemaker.  She was a quiet person, but a feisty person.  She loved shopping and collecting dolls and miniature tea sets.

Surviving family include a cousin Floyd Ctuzicka and wife Connie of Olmitz, Kansas; several other cousins and three step children.

Celebration of Joan’s Life will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.  Interment will follow at Galatia Cemetery in Galatia, Kansas.  Visitation will be Wednesday morning at the mortuary before the service.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell is in charge of these arrangements.
