Robert Otto Jennrich, 81 of Russell died Thursday, March 25, 2010 at the Russell Regional Hospital in Russell, Kansas.
Robert was born September 16, 1928 on the family farm northwest of Russell. He was the second son of Frank R. and Violet R. (Heard) Jennrich. He attended country schools in the area and Russell High School. Robert helped his dad on the farm.
After high school, Robert moved to Russell and worked at the Russell Record Newspaper office. Robert served his country in the Russell Air National Guard from 1950 to 1955.
He also worked a few years on oil drilling units and farms in the Fairport area. Robert moved to Hays and started working as a Patrolman on the campus of Hays State College. He also worked at a floral shop in Hays.
Robert was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church. He loved sports. He coached his daughters’ softball teams when they were growing up. He officiated football and basketball games in Hays for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he had the spare time.
Surviving family include his twin daughters, Melissa Jennrich and Michelle Collazo both of Hays, Kansas; brother, Frank Jennrich, Jr. of Wilson, Kansas; sisters, Betty Soukup of Wilson, Kansas and Doris Dolezal of Kanopolis, Kansas; niece, Twila Angel; and nephews Douglas Dolezal and Larry Soukup. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Dean Jennrich and niece Marcia Ann Soukup.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell with Father Charles Steier officiating. The Rosary will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday before the funeral mass. The quest book will be available from 9 AM to 5 PM Monday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. A memorial has been established as the Robert Jennrich Memorial Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
