Mildred Lee (McCord) Mills, 78 of Russell died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas
Mildred was born July 5, 1931 in Atlanta, Kansas the daughter of Morris L. and Grace McCord. With her dad working in the oil fields they moved around during her childhood. She graduated from LaCrosse High School in LaCrosse, KansasMildred was united in marriage to Melvin Junior Mills on August 7, 1949 in Albert, Kansas. This union was blessed with two sons, Marvin and Morris. They made their home in Great Bend, Plainville and moved to Russell in 1953.
Mildred worked for General Roustabout Service for many years as the office manager.
Mildred was a member of the Christian Church of Russell. She also belonged to the Russell V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to go bowling. She is a past president of the Bowling Association and a member of the Bowling Hall of Fame. She also enjoyed watching football games and the Wheel of Fortune.
Surviving family include her husband of 60 years, Melvin of the home; two sons, Marvin Mills and wife Betty of Hays, Kansas and Morris Mills and wife Marsha of McPherson, Kansas; two brothers, Jack McCord and Norman McCord; sister, Fran Earl; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Carl McCord.
Celebration of Mildred’s Life will be held at 2 PM Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. Interment will follow at Russell City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 7, from 9 AM to 8 PM with the family present to greet friends from 6 PM to 7 PM at the mortuary. A memorial has been established with the Shrine Children Hospital.
