Mildred Laverne Nance, 96 of Russell died Sunday, April 4, 2010 at Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.

 

Mildred was born July 25, 1913 in Buckingham, Colorado, the daughter of Arthur and Jennifer (Sunderland) Fletcher.  Her father worked for the railroad, so they moved around during her childhood.  She graduated from Blue Springs High School in Blue Springs, Nebraska.

 

She was united in marriage to Harry Ray Nance on February 14, 1935 in Barnston, Nebraska.  This union was blessed with a daughter, Glenda.  They made their home in Marysville, Kansas; Wymore, Nebraska; North Platte, Nebraska and Mildred moved to Russell in 1988 to be closer to her daughter.

 

Mildred was a devoted mother and wife.  When they lived in Marysville, Mildred was a sales clerk at the Ben Franklin Store and the Simpson Drug Store. 

 

Mildred was a member of the Christian Church in Marysville.  She loved animals, cooking, and making Afghans for family and friends.  Mildred was a kind hearted lady that was a “MOM”.

 

Surviving family include her daughter, Glenda Tiffin and husband Don of Russell, Kansas; three grandchildren, Gregory Wassenberg, Janet Garrett and Donnie Tiffin; and three great grandchildren, Matthew, Amanda and Mason.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harry, brother Bill Fletcher, and two sisters, Eoe Fry and Goldie Chapman. 

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 9, 2010 at Russell City Cemetery with Pastor Frank Alexander officiating.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Thursday, April 8, 2010 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell.  A memorial has been established with American Cancer Society.  Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.
