Robert “Bob” Keith Webster, 67, Russell, died April 7, 2010, at the Hays Medical Center, following a brief illness. Bob was a talented man who led a life of adventure, exploration and generosity and encouraged others to read voraciously, to think and to engage in lively conversation. He was born August 3, 1942, in Abilene, Texas, to Morgan Webster and Juanda M. (Strube) Webster. His childhood was spent in Kansas oilfield towns when his father was employed by Halliburton. The final Halliburton transfer for the Webster family was to Hays in 1954.

Bob graduated from Hays High School where he lettered in tennis and was an H-Club member. He continued his education at Fort Hays State University before joining the U.S. Army where he was stationed in Germany from 1963 to 1966. He returned to Hays, completed his undergraduate degree and went on to receive an MBA in business and economics. During his university years, he worked for Service Acid Inc., founded by his father.

He married the former Linda Grace Wilkerson on March 25, 1966. In 1968 they moved to Colby where Bob taught economics and business at Colby Community College until 1974. Bob accepted a position as Oil Field Sales Engineer with Dowell Schlumberger Inc. and he and his family lived overseas in Singapore, Scotland, Norway and Egypt until 1980. They returned to Kansas and he worked for Service Acid Inc. in Wichita until 1988 and for SERFCO in Great Bend until his retirement. In 1999, Bob and Linda moved to Russell.

Bob and his father found great joy in racing and training quarter horses. In 1970, one of Bob’s horses, Dunrovin Deep, was named the Kansas Champion Three-year-old Running Horse of the Year. He and Linda loved to play golf, including the famed St. Andrews Links in Scotland. He belonged to the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Kansas Independent Oil and Gas Association.

Most important to Bob was his wife, Linda, with whom he happily shared 44 years of marriage until the time of his death. Of all his accomplishments in life he was most proud of his family, and he cherished talks with his children and grandchildren. Precision of language was a mainstay to Bob, who until his last day, never hesitated to send a family member to the dictionary to look up a word or a reference.

Surviving family members include his wife, Linda, of the home; three daughters, Jessica Karr, Wichita; Jamie Pasek, and husband Michael, Russell; and Jacqueline Webster, Russell; one son, Aaron Clanton, and wife Kayla, Great Bend; and nine grandchildren: Dana Karr, Joni Pasek, Stacey Clanton, Ashley Clanton, Chelsea Clanton, Krista Pasek, Nicholas Pasek, Shelby Clanton and Dylan Webster. Bob is also survived by his sisters, Sally Hekkers, Salinas, Calif., and Jeanne Rott, Louisville, Colo. His parents, Morgan Webster and Juanda Webster, preceded him in death.

At Bob's request there was no official service.  He wanted family and friends to gather for an informal celebration of life, which was held Friday, April 9, 2010, at Meridy's Restaurant and Lounge in Russell, KS.
