Mary Katherine “Kitty” Schremmer, 68 of Russell, died Sunday, April 18, 2010 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas
Kitty was born August 8, 1941 in Hoisington, Kansas the daughter of Bob and Blanche (Jennings) Stehwein. She grew up and attended school in Hoisington. During her high school years she worked as a waitress in a local restaurant.
Kitty was united in marriage to Jim Schremmer on February 4, 1959 in Hoisington. This union was blessed with seven children; Jim, Robert, Mary Liz, Dave, Joe, Kathi and Chuck.
Kitty was a devoted mother and wife. She loved her children, lived for her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a foster “Grandma” to many kindergarteners at Simpson Elementary School.
Kitty was very active in St. Mary’s Catholic church of Russell. She helped with CCD classes and when a National Evangelization Team came to work with high school students she always opened her home to however many needed it. She also was active in the St. Mary’s Funeral Committee, which gave her great satisfaction in helped plan and serve funeral dinners. Kitty was an avid sportsfan and was said that if even tiddlywinks was being played she would be there. While living in Grand Junction, Colorado she coached her sons’ little league baseball team to an undefeated season. She loved camping and fishing for Walleye. She could not wait to get the camper ready this spring.
Surviving family include her husband of 51 years, Jim of the home; five sons, Jim Schremmer of Tucson, Arizona, Bob Schremmer and wife Melissa of Russell, Kansas, Dave Schremmer and wife Catie of Omaha, Nebraska, and Joe Schremmer and wife Robyn and Chuck Schremmer and wife Cheryl all of Salina, Kansas; daughter, Kathi Jeroue and husband Kelly of Twin Falls, Idaho; two brothers, Bill Stehwein of New Jersey and John Stehwein of Ft. Lupton, Colorado; five sisters, Barb Vinyard of Denver, Colorado, Sue Behr and Jeanie Martin both of Great Bend, Kansas, Judy Linker of Enid, Oklahoma and Julie Thorne of Hoisington, Kansas; seventeen Grandchildren and three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Mary Liz and a sister Betty Millard.
Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 23, 2010 at St. Mary, Queen of Angels Catholic Church of Russell with Father Charles Steier officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Russell. A Vigil will be held Thursday evening at 7 P.M. at St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 9 AM to 5 PM Thursday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell. A memorial has been established with St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Kitchen Fund. Contributions and condolences may be sent in care of Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.
