Jack R. Haugen, 72, of Hays, Kansas died on Friday, November 2, 2007 at the Russell Regional Hospital.  Jack was born July 15, 1935 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Joseph and Cora Adams.

Jack grew up in the Chicago area and was a graduate of the Chicago Public Schools.  After high school he was drafted into the Army and served during the early 1950’s.  He was united in marriage to Thea D. Glebocki on November 23, 1990 in Great Bend, Kansas.  Jack and Thea were the owners and operators of the Smokey Hill River Greenhouse from 1989 to 2003. 

Jack enjoyed spending his time with his family, working outdoors and working at his greenhouse.  Jack’s passion and love was bowling and spending countless hours at his local bowling alley.  Jack had always been a great bowler, but Bowling a 300 game was something he had always wanted to accomplish but in most cases, he feel just shy of the elusive 300 game.  On February 9, 1996 at the Centennial Lanes in Hays, Jack achieved his dream of bowling a 300 game.  It was one of the proudest moments of his life and he was very excited and proud when his achievement was placed in the Hays newspaper.  He was a member of the Hays American Legion Post #173, a former member of the Hays Bowling Association and an enthusiastic volunteer with the Sternberg Museum in Hays, Kansas.

Jack is survived by his wife, Thea, of the home, sons Jeff Haugen of Wisconsin and Kirk Haugen of Illinois; step-son John Coulson of Peculiar, Missouri, step-daughters Anelia Glebocki Whitelock of San Diego, California and Darlene Rose of Russell, Kansas; a brother Jim Adams of Colorado Springs Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marie Gangler.
