Darrell Gene Standley, 69, of Russell, died Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at the Galichia Heart Hospital in Wichita, Kansas.  Darrell was born on January 3, 1938 in Osborne Co. on the family farm north of Lucas in the Delhi community.  The son of Hugh M. and Lida D. (Sigle) Standley.  He grew up in the Delhi community and attended country schools up to the 8th grade and attended two years high school in the Delhi area. 

 

Darrell was united in marriage to Gladys Boxberger on June 26, 1960 at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.  They lived in Lucas and later moved and made their home in Russell and have lived there since 1961.  Later they were blessed with two sons named Brian and Brad.  Darrell began his work history for Bob Sparry Welding in Lucas.  Later he worked as a mechanic for Ford Motor Co. then worked for Central Machine Shop here in Russell.  He left Central Machine Shop and worked for Boxberger Tank Service for one year before going back to Central Machine Shop.  In November of 1970 he became owner and operator of the Central Machine Shop, which he operated with his sons.  He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, trap shooting and was a member of the ATA and KTA trap shooting organizations.  He also enjoyed fishing, restoring old vehicles and going to his Bible study card group.

 

He is survived by his wife Gladys of the home, sons Brian Standley and wife Rachelle and Bradley Standley and wife Rosie all of Russell; brother Harold Standley of Kensington, Kansas; two sisters Lola Luder of Russell and Doris Langerman of Lucas; six grandchildren.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Harvey and Donald Standley.

 

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.  Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Russell.  Visitation will be Friday 9 AM to 8 PM with the family present Friday evening from 6 PM to 7 PM. at the Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  A memorial has been established to the St. John Youth Group.  Contributions and condolences may be left with Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who is in charge of these arrangements.  Condolences may be sent via emailed by going to pvpmortuary.com.
