Lillian "Roz" Rosalind Thomas 84 of Russell and formerly of Gorham departed this life at the Victoria St Johns Nursing Home on November 17, 2007.  She was born April 18, 1923 to Godfrey and Mary (Kuhn) Yost in Gorham.  She attended school in Gorham and graduated from Victoria High School.

 

During WWII, she worked in the War effort in Richmond, Virginia, Wichita and the Walker Air Base.  Besides working several years at Harkness Drug in Hays, Roz and Mary Vseteska owned and operated the Sakati and Palms Supper Clubs during the 1950’s. 

Roz moved to Wichita where she met and married Troy Thomas.  Together they raised Billy Jean, Patricia, Troy Lee and Kris.  They moved to Russell where Tom was employed in the oil field and Roz did bookkeeping for several companies.  Roz was very active in the VFW Auxiliary and held many offices during the years she was a member.  She was the cancer chairwoman for several years.

 

Roz is survived by three daughters, Billy Jean and husband Scott Pyles, Patricia Anderson and Kris Dumler; two sons, Troy Lee Thomas and Tim and wife Joyce Zellner; brother, John Yost; 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  She is sadly missed by the families of her sisters and brothers.


 Preceded her in death are husband Troy Thomas, sisters Julita Yost and MaryAnn Froelich, brothers Alois, Edwin, Elmer, Robert, Virgil and Jimmy Yost, and grandson, Timothy Aaron Zellwer.


 Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at St. Marys Catholic Church of Gorham with Father Charles Steier officiating.  Private family committal services will be held later.  Recitation of the Rosary will be at 9:30 A.M. at the church before the services.  Cremation has preceded the services.  A memorial has been established with SouthWind Hospice.  Contributions may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, who is in charge of these arrangements.  Condolences may be left at www.pvpmortuary.com.
