Dennis Gene Hoag, 66 of Russell died Sunday, November 18, 2007 at his residence after a brave battle with cancer.  Dennis was born September 15, 1941 in Wichita, the son of U.G. and Helen (Carpenter) Hoag.  He grew up in Wichita and attended North High School.

 

While living in Wichita, Dennis was a salesman for the Roland Spelt Leather Company and later was a orthopedic specialist with the Kansas Brace and Limb.  In 1970 Dennis and his family moved to Russell where he started working for Hays Brace & Limb.  He purchased the Hays Brace & Limb Company in 1974 and operated it for over 31 years.  He sold the business and started working for Dr. Woods at the Hays Orthopedic Clinic as an orthopedic specialist.

 

He was united in marriage to Betty J. Eaton on April 13, 1959 in Stilwel, Oklahoma.  Dennis and Betty were blessed with three children; Deanna, Gary and Lary.

 

Dennis attended the Celebration Community Church in Hays.  He was a member of the Russell Shrine.  He enjoyed golfing, attending auctions and traveling.  Dennis was a kind and loving father and husband that always put his family first.

 

Surviving Dennis are his wife, Betty of the home; one daughter, Deanna L. Hoag and companion Michael Fisher of Russell; two sons, Gary D. Hoag and wife Karen of Elkton, Maryland and Lary J. Hoag and wife Karen of Bentonville, Arkansas; three brothers, Patrick Jenkins of Los Angeles, California, Jeffrey Jenkins of Brooklyn, New York and John Jenkins of Wichita, Kansas; two sisters, Barbara Seib of Russell and Janet Pack of Wichita, Kansas; and 6 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Celebration of Dennis’ Life is scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 21 at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary in Russell.  Interment will follow at Russell City Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9 AM to 8 PM Tuesday, November 20 at the Mortuary.  A memorial has been established with Heart Hospice of Hays Medical, contributions may be left with Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.  Condolences may also be sent by www.pvpmortuary.com.
