Paul Francis Banks, 78 of Russell died Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Russell Regional Hospital.  Paul was born January 21, 1929 in the Fidelity Community near Fairview, Kansas the son of Harold and Bridget (Farrell.) Banks.  He grew up in the Fidelity area and attended country schools.  He graduated from Fairview High School.

 After graduation, Paul started working at the milk plant in Sabetha, Kansas.  Then while attending the local theater he meet is future bride, Mary Bien.  He was united in marriage to Mary on January 8, 1952 at the St. Augusta Catholic Church in Fidelity.  Together they worked at the Sabetha Seed Plant.  Paul later worked at the Ford dealership in Sabetha for a couple of years.  He then was employed by the city of Sabetha for over 13 years as a lineman.  He also was a volunteer fireman for Sabetha for many years.

 In 1967 Paul and his family moved to Russell where he started working for the City of Russell in the electrical department.  When he retired in 1991 he was an electrical technician at the electrical power plant.  After retirement, he was a consultant for the city.

 Paul was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sabetha and St. Marys Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell.  He also belonged to the Legion of Mary. Paul and Mary loved to square dance.  He enjoyed traveling, taking family photos and spending time on his computer.  His passion in life was his family.  He loved to attend any function that his grandchildren were a part of.

 Surviving family include his wife of 55 years, Mary of the home; 5 sons, Tim Banks, David and wife Melanie Banks, Duane and wife Kathleen Banks, Doug and wife Michelle Banks all of Russell, and Robert Banks of Hays; 4 daughters, Deborah and husband Allen Kreutzer of Hays, Patricia and husband Mark Mead and Phyllis Schulte all of Russell, and Carol and husband James Pummell of Sabina, Ohio; 2 brothers, Harold Gene Banks of Fall City, Nebraska and Michael James Banks of Topeka; two sisters, Mary Catherine Strathman and Rosella Elizabeth Bien both of Sabetha, Kansas; 29 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

 The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 28 at St. Marys Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Russell.  Interment will follow in the St. Marys Catholic Church.  The Vigil will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday at St. Marys Catholic Church.  Visitation will be from 8 AM to 5 PM Tuesday at Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary.  A memorial has been established with St. Marys Queen of Angels Catholic Church Building fund.  Contributions may be left with Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary who are in charge of the arrangements.  Condolences may be sent to www.pvpmortuary.com.
